Kumar Shaw Kushal
Kushal Shaw is a PhD candidate in Experimental Physics at Universidad Complutense de Madrid, conducting his doctoral research in close collaboration with the European XFEL in Hamburg. His research focuses on ultrafast laser–matter interactions, with particular emphasis on photoinduced charge-transfer dynamics investigated using femtosecond pump–probe techniques.
He has extensive hands-on experience with transient absorption spectroscopy, liquid-jet and XUV time-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy, high-harmonic generation, and velocity-map imaging. His work integrates complex experimental methodologies with advanced data analysis and modeling, primarily using Python-based tools for global fitting, Fourier analysis, and singular value decomposition.Kushal completed his integrated five-year B.S.–M.S. degree in Physics at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Kolkata (IISER Kolkata), followed by a Research Assistant position at ELI Beamlines in Prague(Czech Republic).
As part of his doctoral research, he has been involved in international user experiments and collaborations at major large-scale research infrastructures, including European XFEL, DESY, ELI Beamlines, ELI ALPS, Max Born Institute, IMDEA Nanociencia, and Politecnico di Milano.
